Transgender Affirming Minute

Charlotte Friends Meeting celebrates and welcomes the transgender community. 

Transgender people historically and continually have faced prejudice, oppression, and silencing.  We now stand in a moment where governments, faith communities, and individuals are targeting transgender persons with concerted efforts to constrain or eliminate their joys, livelihoods, and even their lives. Those efforts and their intended outcomes are wrong and must be resisted. 

Transgender people possess that of God, the Light, Spirit, which is in everyone, and deserve and require active love, support, and affirmation.  We acknowledge the unique witness of transgender people, who embody some of the lived testimonies and values of Friends, especially that of integrity.  Integrity is acting consistently with our conscience and what we know to be true, seeking alignment between the inner self and the outer expression of that self.  
Charlotte Friends Meeting rejects silence toward and complicity with any intimidation and oppression of transgender people. We honor the witness of transgender people and welcome them, benefiting from those who offer their unique selves in trust and love. We urge and call upon Friends and all faith communities to stand and be counted and to act by embracing, protecting, and supporting transgender people in the joyous fullness of their beings. 

Let us lead with love and have the courage of our transgender F/friends.
