Charlotte Friends Structure

Meeting for Worship

Every Sunday (First Day) at 10:00 am. We meet in silent, unprogrammed worship. Anyone moved by the Spirit to speak during Meeting may do so, leaving space between messages.

Children's Activities

Children join their parents for the first 15 minutes of Meeting for Worship. Childcare for small ones is provided during adult worship. First Day School (Sunday School) activities are provided weekly from 10:15 - 11:00 am. These activities include history and understanding of Quakerism, human relations issues and education, Bible study and social service projects. Children rejoin adults at the end of Meeting for Worship at 11:00 am.

Forum

A weekly adult educational program (Forum) is held at 11:30 following the Meeting for Worship and a brief time of fellowship.

Monthly Meeting for Business

Usually the first Sunday of the Month following Meeting for Worship, we conduct the Monthly Meeting for Business. Everyone is invited to attend.

Friendly Eights

Small groups of Friends meet informally, approximately once a month, for fellowship, discussion, and worship. Everyone is urged to join a group and newcomers are welcome. These groups reorganize each fall.

Friendly Fellowship

Friends gather at the Meeting House or at the home of a member, for potluck and fellowship. These gatherings are open to all and especially families and newcomers.

Committees of the Meeting

Fellowship, learning, and involvement in the life of the Meeting occur as people join together for committee service. Many committees are open to attenders, so please feel free to inquire. See Committees page for details.

Community Projects

Many Friends are active in the community in a variety of service and volunteer projects. As a focus project, the Meeting has adopted the ECO Center, a work-release prison for women in Charlotte.

Finances

Charlotte Friends Meeting has no paid staff. The annual budget is approximately $46,000, of which $10,000 is loan repayment.  36% of the operating budget is spent on outreach. Friends make contributions as led. Contributions can be placed in the donation box in the meeting room or mailed.
